Overview of Queues
Queues are a handy feature that allows you to create any number of posts to go out at pre-specified times and days of the week, which makes them especially ideal for evergreen content. Select the day(s) of the week and the time(s) you’d like your posts to be published. Then add your posts to your Queue, and you've quickly created a plan for sending them out.
Quick Facts
- Queues are available on all plans
- Find them in your dashboard under Publish > Queues
- Queues and RSS feed auto-posters make a great combination
Even if you’re not scheduling evergreen content, if you know that you’ll be publishing on fixed times and days of the week, e.g., a weekly offer or update, Queues allow you to create your posts without having to choose the time and date for each post individually. That will save you time in the process of creating your posts!
Even after creating a Queue, you can always edit it and change the days and times messages from your Queue will post while maintaining the current order of posts. You can find out more about how you can create or edit a Queue in the article, Edit, Share, or Delete a Queue.
The more you use Queues, the more valuable they become, and the more time you save scheduling posts. Many of our users who once weren’t using Queues now find them to be an integral part of their everyday routine.
Take a look
Are Queues for me?
You may still be wondering what the difference is between queuing and scheduling a post, or if Queues really are what you need, which makes sense, as users who haven’t used a Queue before can’t know for sure.
The main difference between queueing a post and scheduling a post is that scheduled posts are aimed to go out at specific times or dates. In contrast, a Queue allows you to quickly schedule general posts which you know will need to go out on specific days of the week but aren’t time-sensitive.
For example, if you want to set up your next 10 weeks' worth of posts to go out on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with weekly deals, motivational quotes, recipes, etc., you could absolutely do this with a Queue, but if you want to schedule a “Happy Birthday” Tweet to go out on a specific day of the year, or if you want to schedule a “Happy New Year” Instagram Reel to go out on the January 1st, it’d be best if you did this by scheduling the post instead.
Tips and tricks for Queues
Setting up a Queue is easy, and maintaining one is also easy, but there are a few things you should keep in mind to keep your Queue optimal, and healthy, and for you to get the most out of it.
Recycling
Queues can be set to “Recycle” posts, which means that once a Queued post is published, it’ll be sent to the back of the Queue so that it’ll be sent out again in the future, depending on how many posts you have in your Queue, and how many times you’re posting in a week.
So if I have a Queue set up to publish a post once a day, every day of the week, and my Queue contains 7 posts, if Recycling is enabled, then the post which is sent out on Sunday will be sent to the back of the Queue and go out again the following Sunday.
If however, the same Queue contained 400 posts instead of 7, then the post which would be sent to the back of the Queue would reach the front and be published again just over a year later.
If Recycling has not been switched on, then every post will only be published once, and once your Queue has published all its posts, it will stop posting until you add new posts.
Diversifying a Queue
Because you’re able to recycle your Queue and have the same posts go out in a cycle, if you don’t add many posts to your Queue, it’s important to make sure that you either change them from time to time or “shuffle” them so that your posting schedule doesn’t become too repetitive, as repetitive and inauthentic posting habits are a big red flag for most social platforms these days.
The best way to do this is either by adding new content or posts to your Queue regularly or by hitting the Shuffle button. to “mix it up” a bit.
Pausing a Queue
To pause a Queue select it from the right hand side and click Pause. If you want to restart the Queue, click the Resume button.
You can also pause a Queue from the settings section. To do that select a Queue, click on the edit icon and change the status to Pause. To restart the queue, click the Resume button.
Sending a post to multiple social profiles at the same time
If you want to send a post to multiple social profiles at the same time, you have two options: 1) if it is the exact same post you can add multiple social profiles to your post when you add it to the Queue, or 2) if the post is modified for each social network, you can create a Queue for each network and add the same days/times to each and add the posts in the same order. You may want to monitor these Queues to confirm that they remain in sync with each other as time goes on.
Using Queues with RSS feeds
Most users who use Queues for publishing content tend to use RSS feeds by setting up their RSS Autoposter to forward their new articles to their Queue. You can find out more about how to do this here: Best Practices - RSS feed autoposters.
