Add alt text to Facebook images
Adding descriptive (alt) text to your post's images helps your audience and search engines understand the purpose and information in the image when it cannot be viewed.
Caution: Alt text is currently available for Facebook posts only.
How to add alt text
- Click on Compose.
- Select the Facebook Profile you want to post to.
- Add the image you want to use.
- Click the pencil icon to edit the image.
- Click the 'Alt Text' option in the lower right-hand corner to open the alt text pop-up.
- Enter your alt text, giving a brief description of the information conveyed by the image.
Tip: How to write effective alt text
- Provide details when describing the image.
- Keep your copy short. Try to be accurate with the fewest number of words.
- Help users understand what is happening in the image without being repetitive.
- Avoid phrases like "image of ..." or "graphic of ..." since screen readers already announce that an image is being described.
- Click Save and continue to schedule your post as desired.
