About adding alt text to your images
Adding descriptive (alt) text to your post's images helps your audience, as well as search engines, understand the purpose of and information in the image when it cannot be viewed.

- This feature is currently only available for Facebook posts.
- When using alt text, describe the image as specifically as possible.
- The alt text should try to answer this question: What is the main message the image conveys?
- Alt text improves digital accessibility and is required by law in some areas.
- When adding alt text, it's best to keep it short (about 200 characters) and descriptive. Microsoft has a great article on why and how to write alt text for images.
- Using alt text makes social media more accessible to those using screen readers and improves your SEO.
Caution: Alt text is currently available for Facebook posts only.
Step-by-step guide
- Click on Compose.
- Select the Facebook Page social profile you want to post to.
- Add the image you want to use, including your desired message.
- Click the pencil icon
to edit the image.
- Click the alt text option in the lower right-hand corner to open the alt text pop-up.
- Enter your alt text. Give a brief description of the information conveyed by the image.
- Click Save and continue to schedule your post as desired.
