WordPress undelivered error messages
This article covers common errors you might encounter as to why your post might be rejected by WordPress when posting to your WordPress.org and WordPress.com profiles. It helps you understand what they mean and how to prevent it from happening the next time.
To find any posts that haven’t successfully made it to WordPress go to Published > Undelivered and look for the related error message:
Profile settings issues
Not Found
- Explanation: The URL was not found when the post attempted to go out.
- Solution: Make sure the URL is set to the domain of website.com instead of website.com/blog.
Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined.
- Explanation: This means that there was an issue in the formation of the address of the website URL or some other link.

Solution: You would need to add
https://
to the URL in the settings area.
Server returned a fault exception: [403] Incorrect username or password.
- Explanation: The incorrect username/password was added to the profile.
- Solution: Please adjust the username or password in the settings and confirm that it is the login used to access WordPress.
The remote name could not be resolved: 'website.com'
- Explanation: The URL was not found when the post attempted to go out.

Solution: Make sure there are no spelling mistakes with your URL and make sure that the web address matches your website exactly. (For example, make sure
https://
andwww
have been added to the URL if that is how your web address is displayed.
Blog permissions issues
Posting failed because the WordPress endpoint xmlrpc.php does not exist. Add /xmlrpc.php to the end of your WordPress site's URL to check the results of your 404 error. Visit this page for more information and for help to re-enable xmlrpc.php on your WordPress site: https://codex.wordpress.org/XML-RPC_Support
- Explanation: This error message indicates that the connection to your WordPress profile is broken as there may be an issue with the XML-RPC for the page.

Solution: Add
/xmlrpc.php
to the end of your WordPress site's URL to check the results and see if you are given an error. If you see any message other than "XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only." you will need to enable XML-RPC on your WordPress site.
Temporary connection issue at WordPress
Unable to connect to the remote server
- Explanation: This error message is usually displayed when WordPress is having some downtime while posting.
- Solution: Wait for 5 to 10 minutes before you try re-posting the message from your Undelivered view.
The operation has timed out
- Explanation: This error message displays when WordPress is experiencing temporary issues.
- Solution: Wait for 5 to 10 minutes before you try re-posting the message from your Undelivered view.
WordPress did not acknowledge that your message was successfully posted. Please check your WordPress site to ensure that it was published. You can check the error and resend the message from within the Undelivered section in your account.
- Explanation: This error message is usually displayed when WordPress is experiencing a temporary issue and we're unable to confirm back that the post has made it to WordPress.
- Solution: Please check your WordPress blog to see if the message has made it. If not, please try to schedule the message again.
