Troubleshooting steps for Google My Business
This article covers common reasons why posts might be declined by Google My Business or you may be unable to add or reconnect a Google My Business Profile.
Important: Google My Business groups provide a safe way to share management of your locations with multiple users. Business groups are like a shared folder for your locations, a simple way to share access to a set of locations with co-workers.
Create a Google My Business group if:
- You want to share location management with a co-worker, manager of one of your brands or regions, or an agency
- You want to run location ad campaigns.
The steps to give a co-worker, manager or agency access to the grouped locations:
Add the coworker or agency employee as a manager or owner to the Business group, then transfer the locations to that account.
Posting
Are you using the right image ratio?
Google My Business is very strict on the image ratio you can use. Please see our article on this.
(The recommended size is 1080 x 608 pixels)
Is your image a photograph?
Google My Business only allows images of people, food, places etc. Please avoid using pictures of menus or using any text-based image, as this may cause the post to bounce.
Has the business been verified?
Before you can post, the business must be verified. Please see the following link to check the status of your business: https://business.google.com/manage
Is the Business location grouped or ungrouped?
Grouped and ungrouped locations can affect visibility in the drop-down list when you try to add it to the dashboard. Ensure that you select the correct Google My Business Account.
Posting and adding/reconnecting profiles
Do you have the correct Permission Level for the business listing?
Please ensure your account is set to Owner or Manager to be able to add a Google My Business Profile and post successfully.
This can be changed via the Google My Business management page, then click the Page in question and select Users on the left.
Is it a Google My Business listing that has more than 10 locations?
If you are posting to Google My Business Listing which has more than 10 locations (franchise) you will receive the following bounce message "This location belongs to a chain. The Local Post API is disabled for this location". If you are posting to Google My Business Listing that has more than 10 locations (franchise) you may receive the following bounce message "This location belongs to a chain. The Local Post API is disabled for this location" as Google My Business has added limitations depending on when the listings were created. You can manage the limit of the number of Google My Business Listing for your account by requesting bulk verification.
